Home improvement on roofing material selection and installation basically depends on many things. Although there are home owners, manufacturers, building contractor, and advertisements claiming that the stuffs they use on their place is the best or is better than the others, I would say there are lots of things to consider before you can conclude whether yours is the top quality.

Roofing materials may come in various shapes, made, and sizes as there are no standards in making houses. Among the most famous and commonly used materials for our roof all over the world are clay tiles, slate roofs, wooden shingles, asphalt shingles, and the metal roofs. It is very obvious and common sense where all of these are made from. Although they differ in shapes, sizes, designs, and materials, they all share the same objective of covering up the house to give shelter from the heat of the sun, the coldness of the night, drops of rain, chilling feel of snow, and the strong gust of the wind. However, each of these has their own advantages and disadvantages especially when installed on certain places.

· Clay Roof Tiles – the best thing about these is that they are fire resistant which means that they are not prone to getting burnt out. They are also good for absorbing heat instead of letting it pass inside the house. They are also more resistant to insect colonization which usually destroys the integrity of the materials. The only downside of this material is that they are expensive to install and are quite delicate from being stepped on after being set up.

· Metal Roofs – these are by far the most popular and commonly used material all over the world due to their inexpensive cost and installation as well as their durability even in harsh weather bombarded places. In addition, they are also quite easy to replace and repair as compared to the others.

· Wooden Shingles – these are best for country inspired houses as they are resistant to rot and decay as the material used for these is cedar. These are quite inexpensive and may produce beautiful results when installed properly. These can be good choices although they would not fit on modern types of houses.

· Asphalt Shingles – these are commonly seen on poor countries as they are alternatives for other types of roofing materials although they are not resistant to heavy wind and ice damages as compared to the others.

The first things to consider when choosing for the ideal roofing material for your house are the location, weather, and temperature of your area. Although beauty is an essential factor of a house, the overall impact of the house which includes the safety.
